Police Blotter: Man Accused of Hitting Girlfriend in Face With Screwdriver

A middle school student was arrested on campus after authorities found marijuana and alcohol in his backpack.

For the period of March 4-10, the responded to 924 calls for service, 124 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, March 4:

Around 8:48 a.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. The victim explained he was reviewing his Kohl's credit card statement and discovered fraudulent charges. He had the credit card in his possession at the time of the report and did not give anyone permission to use his account.

At approximately 6:18 p.m., an officer was dispatched to at the S in reference to a juvenile detained for theft. The suspect allegedly concealed a bottle of cologne inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without paying. The 16-year-old boy was cited and released to his parent.

Monday, March 5:

At about 10:10 a.m., an officer was dispatched to 171 East Sycamore Avenue, in regards to a student being detained for possession of marijuana and an alcoholic beverage. Officials determined the student concealed the items in his backpack for use after school. The 13-year-old was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shortly after 8:40 p.m., officers responded to the at the Santa Anita Mall in reference to an alleged theft that had just occurred. Officers located and detained the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect reportedly requested change from cashiers at different eateries and asked them to count out the money, at which time the suspect took the money from their hands and fled. The 62-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, March 6:

At about 4:08 p.m., officers responded to , 400 East Huntington Drive, regarding an injury traffic collision into a building. An employee parked her vehicle in a space closest to the south wall of the restaurant and leaned over to the passenger side of the vehicle without putting it in park. As the vehicle began to move forward, she attempted to place her foot on the brake but hit the gas instead, causing the vehicle to drive up the curb and into the building. When she got out of the car, she fainted and hit her face on the ground. The subject was transported to the for medical assistance.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Greenfield Avenue in regards to a man suspect who had barricaded himself inside his residence with a gun after fighting with his girlfriend. Officers located the suspect in his backyard and detained him in front of the residence. The 51-year-old man allegedly hit his girlfriend in the face with a screwdriver. The victim and suspect were transported to the Arcadia Methodist Hospital for medical treatment and after clearance, the suspect was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, March 7:

Around 2:39 p.m., an officer responded to Foothills Middle School in reference to a child abuse investigation. A student reported to the school counselor that the bruise on his face was a result of his father striking him for playing computer games rather than completing his homework. After investigation, the 37-year-old father was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. An emergency protective order was issued and a Department of Child and Family Services agent was assigned to the case.

At approximately 9:22 p.m., an officer responded to the 000 block of Sharon Road regarding a residential burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through the front door, ransacked the bedrooms, and fled undetected. Wallets, checks, and jewelry were reported missing. No one saw or heard anything suspicious.

Thursday, March 8:

Shortly after 12:21 p.m., an officer responded to the 000 block of East Live Oak Avenue regarding an auto burglary report. The victim returned to his vehicle and discovered unknown suspect(s) entered his vehicle by an unknown means and tampered with the ignition. Articles of clothing and other items were reported missing.

At about 3:45 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter in regards to a theft report. The victim found a vehicle she wanted to purchase on Craigslist and contacted the seller. The seller directed the victim to wire money via Western Union and explained she would ship the vehicle once the $1,950 payment was received. The victim completed the wire transfer but never received the vehicle.

Friday, March 9:

Around 0:37 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Intrepid for a broken license plate lamp, on southbound Santa Anita Avenue at the 210 freeway. A records check revealed the rear passenger, a 31-year-old woman, had an outstanding felony warrant. She was arrested for the warrant and on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, which an officer reportedly found on her person during the booking process.

Between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole a bicycle from a bike rack near JCPenney at the Santa Anita Mall. The victim has no idea who stole his bicycle. No one saw or heard anything suspicious.

Saturday, March 10:

At approximately 9:59 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 000 block of West Huntington Drive in regards to a residential burglary report at an apartment complex. The apartment manager discovered unknown suspect(s) broke into the laundry room and stole hundreds of dollars worth of quarters from two laundry machines. The officer determined the suspect(s) pried open the coin mechanism and fled undetected.
 
Shortly after 5:50 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a grey Chevrolet Corvette for making an illegal lane change on Colorado Boulevard at Colorado Place. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. The officer determined the 49-year-old man was driving under the influence. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
