Police Blotter: Man Eats Drugged Cookie, Leaps From Window

The Arcadia Police Department also dealt with a stabbing, along with several thefts from the Santa Anita Mall.

For the period of May 13-19, the responded to 852 calls for service, 111 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Shoplifting

Around 3 p.m. on May 13, an officer responded to at the regarding a theft report. A woman allegedly exited the store without paying for the merchandise concealed inside her purse. The 54-year-old suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Stolen Purse

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on May 13, an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a stolen purse report. The victim parked her vehicle in the 1000 block of La Cadena Avenue so she could clean out her garage. However, she forgot to remove her purse from the front seat. Officers did not find any signs of forced entry and no one saw or heard anything suspicious.

T-shirt Theft

Shortly after 5:15 p.m. on May 14, an officer responded to at the Santa Anita Mall regarding a theft report. The store manager noticed approximately 24 T-shirts missing from a display shelf. Sales records showed the merchandise had not been sold. No one saw or heard anything suspicious. 

Residential Burglary

At about 9:30 p.m. on May 14, an officer was dispatched to the 2000 block of South Eighth Avenue regarding a residential burglary investigation. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a rear window and fled undetected. Cash, jewelry and electronics were reported missing. The victim had no idea who might have broken into the home.   

Traffic Collision

At about 9:15 a.m. on May 15, an officer responded to a two-party traffic accident on Colorado Boulevard, west of Altura Road. While both vehicles were stopped for a red light, Party One struck Party Two from behind. An investigation revealed Party One had accidentally taken her foot off the brake and rolled forward at approximately 5 mph. Party One complained of back aches.

Residential Burglary on Mayflower

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on May 15, an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of Mayflower Avenue regarding a residential burglary report. When the owner returned home, he noticed his front door open and discovered someone had ransacked his living room and master bedroom. He reported numerous items missing.

The officer spoke with a neighbor, who said she saw an unknown Hispanic man carrying a white bag and other unidentifiable property exit the victim's residence around 11:15 a.m. The suspect is described as being in his early 20's with short black hair. He wore a white T-shirt and khaki-colored shorts. He reportedly entered the passenger side of a white vehicle and headed north on Mayflower Avenue.

Elder Fraud

Around 6:30 p.m. on May 16, an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. An elderly victim was promised huge returns on a real estate investment that was determined to be fraudulent. An investigation revealed the suspect is located overseas and obtained approximately $350,000 from the victim over a period of seven years. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.   

Credit Card Fraud

At approximately 9:13 p.m. on May 16, officers were dispatched to the 000 block of Fairview Avenue to investigate a fraud report. Unknown suspect(s) opened a credit card account under the victim's name and charged approximately $1,200. The victim had no idea how her personal information was compromised.

Shoplifting at H & M

Shortly after 3:50 p.m.on May 17, officers responded to at the Santa Anita Mall regarding a theft report. A woman allegedly concealed jewelry and clothing inside her purse and exited the store without paying. The 20-year-old woman was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Stabbing

At about 8:10 p.m. on May 17, an officer was dispatched to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, where a man was being treated for an assault that occurred in Arcadia on May 11. The victim explained that two Hispanic men approached him as he exited Honeyboba at 1 West Duarte Road. The suspects asked the victim what gang he was from. . The suspects fled the scene on foot, heading north on Santa Anita Avenue. The victim said he drove himself home after the incident, attempted to treat his own injuries and never contacted law enforcement. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.   

Driving Without a License

At approximately 6:57 a.m. on May 18, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a silver Mustang for expired registration tags. A records check revealed the DMV had never issued the driver a license. The 25-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking while his vehicle was impounded.

Theft at Hollister

Around 12:15 p.m. on May 18, an officer responded to at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding two women detained for theft. The suspects allegedly removed the security sensors from various items of clothing before concealing the clothes inside their purses and exiting the store without paying. An investigation revealed the suspects had also reportedly stolen from the Montebello Mall. The women, ages 26 and 27, were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.  

Man Hopped Up On Hallucinogenic Cookie Jumps From Window

At approximately 1:43 a.m. on May 19, an officer was dispatched to the 000 block of West Duarte Road regarding a medical assist for a man who had fallen out of a second-story window. The responded to the scene and treated him for minor scrapes. Officers determined the man was under the influence of marijuana on top of having consumed a cookie laced with an undetermined hallucinogen. He explained he jumped out of the window because he believed he could fly.

Possession of Marijuana, Driving With a Suspended License

Shortly after 12:25 p.m. on May 19, an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Colorado Boulevard and Fifth Avenue for suspended registration. The officer discovered the male driver also had a suspended license and the passenger was allegedly in possession of concentrated cannabis. The suspects were cited and released in the field while their vehicle was impounded.
