Refinery Fire Sparks Rise in Gas Prices

Check out Arcadia Patch's Gas and Traffic feature to find the station with the cheapest gas in the city.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County Thursday recorded its largest daily increase since at least 2010, rising 7.3 cents to $4.186, its highest amount since May 19 of last year.

The Arcadia Mobile Service Center at 679 West Duarte Road has the lowest gas prices in the city, starting at $4.01 per gallon. The station with the next-lowest prices is the 76 Station at 102 East Duarte Road, where prices start at $4.16 per gallon.

The sharp increase in gas prices is a direct result of a major fire at the Cherry Point refinery near Blaine, Wa. The refinery will have to remain closed for at least three weeks, which translates into reduced oil supply and higher gas prices, Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.
