Discussion of a City Council motion banning the sale of individual cigars at most stores in Baldwin Park was delayed until until the Council's October 16 meeting, according to City Manager Vijay Singhal.
The ban, which was on the agenda for Wednesday's meeting, would apply to cigars, cigarillos, tiparillos, blunts and blunt wraps, according to the city staff report.  It would be enforced at any store where the primary business was not the sale of cigars, meaning only a cigar shop would be enforced.
The purpose of the ban would be to prevent the marketing of the products to Baldwin Park's youth, according to the staff reports, which notes the products are available in flavors like grape and cotton candy.
A city survey of small retailers noted that cigarillos are found for sale at 78 percent of stores, and in 40 percent, are placed within three feet of candy displays.
