Armed Off-Duty Cop Catches Woman Breaking Into Beaumont Home: BPD

Police say the officer detained the woman until Beaumont PD arrived and took her into custody.

BEAUMONT, CA — A police officer caught a would-be thief in the most familiar of places this week — inside his own home, the Beaumont Police Department reports. The incident happened on Memorial Day in the area of Sitara Avenue and Leslie Street.

According to Beaumont police, 36-year-old Marie Modesto of Yucaipa broke into the house via an unlocked door and "was quickly detained by the off-duty officer."

Another resident at the home called 911.

"The resident informed dispatchers an intruder entered the home and was being detained at gunpoint by an off-duty officer, who resided in the home," police said.

Modesto was also found to be in possession of suspected drugs, according to police.

She was ultimately arrested on several charges including burglary and possession of a controlled substance, booking logs indicated. She posted $100,000 bail and was released from custody within 24 hours.
