Banning DUI Checkpoint Inspects 500+ Vehicles For Intoxicated Drivers, Other Violations

Over 500 vehicles drove through the Banning DUI checkpoint this week.

BANNING, CA — A Banning DUI checkpoint on Monday yielded 22 citations for multiple violations, the Banning Police Department shared. Violations included driving with a suspended/revoked license, driving without a license, and a child safety seat violation.

This DUI checkpoint was held in the 800 block of W. Ramsey Street from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., according to a news release from acting Capt. Brandon Smith.

"A total of 21 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license, and 506 vehicles were contacted," Smith said.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined by reported incidents of impaired-driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads.

Additional DUI checkpoints will be held throughout 2026, with dates and locations to be determined.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
