Beaumont High School Senior Wins Edison Scholar $50K Scholarship

On the 20th Anniversary of the Edison Scholars Program, a Beaumont High School senior was selected for the award toward his STEM degree.

BEAUMONT, CA — It isn't every day that you're awarded $50,000. This week, Beaumont High School senior Alex Ivanov learned he was awarded $50,000 by the Edison Scholar Program, to be paid out over four years to help pay for college.

"Alex is receiving the $50,000 scholarship, to be paid over four years, to help him pursue a college education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)," Gabriella Ornelas told Patch.

Alex has already earned an associate's degree in computer science and plans to pursue his bachelor's degree in the field. According to Ornelas, his focus is on developing secure technology to protect consumers and improve their quality of life.

"Since 2006, Edison International has awarded the scholarship to 30 high school seniors who live in SoCal Edison service areas and are passionate about making a difference in the world through a fulfilling career in STEM," she said.
