91 Freeway Shooter Arrested: CHP
The arrest follows a December 14 incident on state Route 91 in Riverside in which a driver was wounded.
RIVERSIDE, CA — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting on the 91 Freeway that left a victim wounded.
On Monday, 41-year-old Maurice Orlando Stells Jr. of Moreno Valley was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol. According to the law enforcement agency, he was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of attempted murder, negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
Stells' arrest follows a December 14 incident on state Route 91 in Riverside when the driver of a blue Chevrolet Camaro fired an unknown number of rounds at another motorist before fleeing the scene westbound on the freeway.

The driver of the victim vehicle was struck by the gunfire and hospitalized. A medical update was unavailable.
The CHP later identified Stells as the alleged shooter. A possible motive for the violence was not disclosed.

Stells has no documented criminal history in Riverside County, according to court records.
CHP Riverside Area Commander Captain E. Meeker said, "Acts such as these will not be tolerated and will be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law."
The shooting investigation is ongoing, and any witnesses who may have observed the incident are asked to call the CHP, Riverside Investigation Unit at 951-324-7210.
