Crews are simultaneously working to preserve two historical bridges at the Strawberry Creek Bridge near Hemet and the Morrill Canyon Bridge near Lake Elsinore.
Improvements to these bridges will include retrofit and upgrades with slab overlay and new guardrail systems on the existing bridges, bringing lane and shoulder widths up to current standards, according to Caltrans.
Strawberry Creek Bridge is currently an active work zone Monday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and beginning Oct. 11, temporary traffic signals will be in place at each end of the bridge with k-rail making the bridge single-lane access only.
Caltrans has not yet determined a start date for roadwork at the Morrill Canyon Bridge, but did announce that work will be scheduled nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. with one-way traffic control flaggers at each end of the bridge. Officials predicted approximately five, 55-hour weekend full closures at the bridge. No wide loads or oversized vehicles will be permitted during the work.
Pavement rehab continues on Interstate 10 in and near Blythe this week from Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Teed Ditch Bridge to the Arizona State line.
The highway will remain open during construction, according to Caltrans. Signage will be strategically placed in and around the construction zone. Temporary detour lanes will be constructed to keep two lanes open in each direction at all times, and no long term closures are planned.
Speed limits will be reduced by 10 mph throughout the work zone.
