A Cherry Valley man and his two sons pleaded not guilty Wednesday to multiple counts of possessing explosive or destructive devices, charges filed by prosecutors in the wake of standoffs and arrests Sunday in Beaumont and Cherry Valley.
Bruce Borynack, 49, Zachariah Borynack, 25, and Zephaniah Borynack, 23, next have a felony settlement conference Oct. 21 in Banning, John Hall of the District Attorney's Office said.
Sheriff's officials on Monday said the Borynacks had been keeping sophisticated bomb making materials in an "underground bunker" in their Nancy Avenue backyard.
Deputies responded in armored vehicles and tactical gear Sunday to take the Borynacks into custody and search the family's property.
"Inside the bunker investigators located a large amount of explosive munitions," Sheriff's Sgt. James Burton said in a press release. "Due to the amount of explosive devices located, the United States Air Force Hazardous Materials experts and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist with the investigation."
The Borynacks remained in custody Wednesday, on $500,000 bail each, at Smith Correctional in Banning, according to inmate records.
Hall said Zephaniah Borynack has a bail review hearing Friday in Banning.
