Brush Fire Slows Traffic On Eastbound 60 Near Beaumont

BEAUMONT, CA — A brush fire burning Monday afternoon in unincorporated area west of Beaumont has snarled commuter traffic.

The fire was reported at 3:02 p.m. near eastbound state Route 60 at Jack Rabbit Trail.

"Firefighters are on scene of approximately 3 acres burning at a moderate rate of spread in light flashy fuels," according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The freeway's number 3 lane was closed, according to the fire department. The California Highway Patrol was running a traffic break.

The fire department reported that additional firefighting resources were responding to the area.

At 4:05 p.m., the fire was contained to 1.5 acres, according to the fire department.
