Coroner IDs Riverside Victim Struck While Riding Electric Scooter

A 21-year-old woman struck the man later identified as a 40-year-old Riverside resident.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A man fatally struck while scooter-riding in Riverside was identified Friday as a 40-year-old resident of the city.

Nicholas Pitcock died Wednesday afternoon following the collision in the 4000 block of La Sierra Avenue, near Cochran Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Bureau.

Just before 4:30 p.m., Pitcock was on his electric scooter, traveling southbound in a northbound lane on the four-lane corridor, when he approached the main entrance and exit for La Sierra High School, Riverside Police Sgt. Emilio Angulo said.

As he passed the campus, an unidentified 21-year-old woman at the wheel of a sedan initiated a turn out of the parking lot onto La Sierra. She collided head-on with the scooter, according to Angulo.

He was taken to Riverside Community Hospital in grave condition and succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.

Angulo said the motorist was questioned by patrol officers but not arrested. However, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8722.
