Desert Teens Compete In Battle Of The Brains
Teams of high school students from around the desert will test their knowledge of world affairs.

PALM DESERT, CA — North Korea, the global refugee crisis and space policy are all on the table at the 14th Annual Academic WorldQuest Competition Thursday.
Teams of high school students from around the desert will test their knowledge of world affairs like the ones listed above at the academic competition set to take place at 5:30 p.m. on Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus, CSUSB Palm Desert Spokesperson Mike Singer said.
The teams each consist of four students and a coach. Each member of the winning team will receive $300 and round-trip travel to Washington, D.C., for the national WorldQuest competition in April, Singer said.

Second and third place winners will receive $200 and $100 for each team member, respectively. Special awards will also be given to teams for categories, such as Most School Spirit, International Dress, Most Professional Dress and Most Improved.
The 2019 roster of high schools include: Coachella Valley High School, Desert Mirage High School, Desert Hot Springs High School, Indio High School, La Quinta High School, Palm Desert High School, Palm Valley School, Palm Springs High School, Rancho Mirage High School, Shadow Hills High School, West Shores High School and Xavier College Preparatory High School.

KESQ Anchor Sarah Trott will moderate the competition, which is open to the public.
Parking is paid for by the sponsor of the competition, World Affairs Council of the Desert.
