A DUI checkpoint is planned Saturday night and early Sunday in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley area, a California Highway Patrol spokesman announced Aug. 21.
San Gorgonio Pass Area CHP officers will stage the checkpoint at an undisclosed location between 9 p.m. Aug. 24 and 3 a.m. Aug. 25, Officer Darren Meyer said in a statement.
"The sobriety checkpoint will be conducted by numerous CHP Officers who are highly trained in the detection of alcohol and / or drug impaired drivers," Meyer said. "Officers will also be equipped with hand held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood-alcohol concentration of suspected drunk drivers. Offenders will be processed at the checkpoint and booked at either the Southwest Detention Facility or the Larry D. Smith Detention Facility."
Funding for CHP checkpoints comes in part from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
