When they arrived, deputies spoke with Gloria's mother. She feared her son because he had threatened family members with a wooden rod while under the influence of methamphetamine, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies tried to speak to Gloria and negotiate a peaceful surrender, but he refused and was uncooperative, the office reported.

At one point he "aggressively advanced toward deputies," prompting the law enforcement officers to use a Taser on him.
After a brief struggle, deputies were able to place handcuffs on Gloria and take him into custody. But several minutes after being cuffed, Gloria became unresponsive, according to the sheriff's office.
Medical aid was rendered and paramedics were called.
Despite life-saving measures, Gloria died at the scene. An autopsy will determine his cause and manner of death, the sheriff's office said.
The names of the involved deputies will not be released, according to the agency.
Investigators from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office are leading an investigation into the fatality.
