Fire Reported In Lambs Canyon

BEAUMONT, CA — Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to fires in the Lambs Canyon area, south of Beaumont. The small, spot blazes were first reported at 12:52 p.m., according to the CHP and Riverside County Fire Department logs.

The California Highway Patrol says the first fire was reported along SR-79, just south of the dump. A photographer at the scene spotted multiple small spot fires burning in the area.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in a field, not threatening any structures.

Cal Fire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters from Hemet-Ryan Airport were initially requested to make drops, but the fire was moving slowly, and the air support was canceled, according to reports from the scene.

A portion of one northbound lane was closed as a result of the fire and traffic was reported in the area.

As of 1:45 p.m., all fires were reportedly out, however Cal Fire was still working on clean up. All lanes were expected to reopen by about 2:30 p.m., logs indicated.

There was no word on what triggered the blaze.
