Firefighters Contain Fast-Growing Brush Fire in Banning

BANNING, CA — Riverside County firefighters needed more than 10 hours to clear a containment line of vegetation around a 34-acre brush fire in Banning, authorities said Sunday.

The fire was reported around noon Saturday near the intersection of Old Banning Idyllwild Road and Shirleon Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

It was originally reported at 10 acres but had grown to 34 acres by 1:21 p.m.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
