UPDATE: 3 are now confirmed dead following a midair collision between two firefighting helicopters.

CABAZON, CA — At least one person was killed Sunday evening when a water- dropping helicopter crashed while fighting the Broadway brush fire near Cabazon in Riverside County.

The crash happened near Pipeline Road and Apache Trail, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told KTLA 5 News.

There was no immediate word on the number of people on board.

The brush fire was currently estimated to have charred 20 acres of grass, the station reported.
