'He Chooses Hard Work, Giving His All:' Banning Star Student Athlete
Marquis's hearing impairment hasn't held him back, if anything it made him work harder and hungrier to achieve goals on and off the field.
BANNING, CA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.
This submission comes from Darlene Stewart who nominated her son, Marquis, a sophomore football player from Banning, California who happens to be hearing impaired.

Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer
Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
Marquis is only a sophomore whom is also Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and he played Varsity Quarterback. He also played safety.
Marquis also has a 4.0 GPA, and has not only played varsity football, but varsity basketball and baseball his freshman year.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
I believe that Marquis should be recognized because he has the gift to face stare adversity right in the face and still come out on top.
Since the day he was born Marquis has had to fight to be “normal” and compete amongst the rest. But Marquis is anything BUT normal.
Marquis's hearing impairment has never held him back, if anything, it made him work harder and hungrier to achieve goals.
His ability to adjust to any challenge that transpires in front of him is not only inspiring, but it is part of who he is at his core. Marquis never lets the score of the football game or the obstacles that occur in life alter the approach he will take because he will always choose to work hard and give it his all.
