Heavy Traffic On 10 Freeway As Coachella Music Fest Begins
Traffic on Interstate 10 is expected day and night throughout the festival. Attendees began arriving Thursday.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — Thousands of music fans are already making their way to the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, and Interstate 10 is starting to feel it.
The event runs April 12-14 and April 19-21 at the Empire Polo Club, 81-800 51st Avenue. Festival campers began checking into the concert venue Thursday morning, and non-campers will start arriving Friday morning. Heavy I-10 traffic is expected day and night throughout the festival, especially since the first weekend is sold out. The freeway will be busy from Los Angeles, through the San Gorgonio Pass Area and into the Coachella Valley.
On April 15 and again on April 22, streets surrounding the festival site and Interstate 10 will be busy again with thousands leaving the area.

Indio officials announced that Avenue 50 between Monroe Street and Madison Avenue will be closed until May 6. After the Coachella fest shuts down, the country music Stagecoach event takes place at the Empire Polo Club April 26, 27 and 28.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to adjust their commutes accordingly during this festival season. Recommended detours during the period include Highway 111, Dr. Carreon Boulevard, Avenue 48, and Avenue 52.

“The closure of Avenue 50 is essential to ensure the safety of workers, residents, and commuters alike,” said Indio's Community Services Manager Jim Curtis. “By using the recommended alternative routes, we can work together towards another exciting year where we showcase the City of Indio and greater Coachella Valley to those visiting from around the world.”
