Homeowner Shoots, Kills Suspected Burglar In Riverside County

The homeowner and suspect engaged in a shootout, police said. Both were wounded, but the alleged burglar died from his injuries.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A burglary suspect was killed early Wednesday during a shootout with a homeowner in Riverside.

Riverside Police Department officers received a 911 call regarding shots fired at around 1:30 a.m. and responded to the 5900 block of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, where they learned a burglary suspect and a homeowner exchanged gunfire during an attempted robbery, said Lt. Brian Dobson of the Riverside Police Department.

The homeowner and the suspect were wounded and taken to a hospital, Dodson said.

The suspect died of his injuries at the hospital.

The homeowner was wounded in his lower extremities and was expected to survive.
