Homicide Investigation Underway Following Riverside Shooting

A man shot a woman inside a Riverside business, then turned the gun on himself, police say.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A man allegedly shot a woman, inflicting life-threatening wounds, then turned the gun on himself and ended his life Tuesday on the north end of Riverside.

The attack was reported just after 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 6100 block of Columbus Avenue, near Jurupa Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Police said patrol officers were alerted to a shooting in a business and immediately deployed to the location, where they found the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, seriously wounded.

The woman was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for emergency surgery, police said.

Officers found the shooter, a man whose name also was not released, dead from a self-inflicted wound a short distance from the business, according to authorities.

No one else was hurt.

Robbery-Homicide Unit detectives were sorting out details late Tuesday morning.

The area around the business along Columbus was cordoned off to facilitate the investigation.
