Kitten Rescued From Locomotive In Riverside
A kitten retrieved Wednesday from inside a locomotive at Fairmount Park in Riverside has now been put up for adoption.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA -- Riverside County Animal Services officers retrieved a kitten from inside a locomotive at Fairmount Park in Riverside, and the animal has now been put up for adoption.
The ancient train was installed at Fairmount Park in the 1950s. Feral cats and kittens are known to
frequent the area and the kitten, presumably climbed the exhaust stack before falling into the smoke box.
Officers responded several times and could hear the kitten’s meows, but they could not access the
smoke box. Ultimately, they were able to remove the front door and placed two traps inside the box.

Veterinary technicians at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley examined the black kitten, who was nicknamed "Casey Jones" after the 19th-century locomotive engineer.
``He is very nervous and shy but we think he is young enough to becomea sweet cat in the right loving home environment,'' Animal Services spokesman John Welsh said.
