Man Killed After Stepping into Traffic In MoVal

"The pedestrian sustained major injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the scene," sheriff's officials said.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday while attempting to cross in front of a vehicle at a Moreno Valley intersection, a Riverside County sheriff's spokesman said.

The fatality occurred about 4 a.m. in the area of Fawn Avenue and Heacock Street, according to sheriff's Sgt. Gil Gonzalez.

He said the victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, stepped onto Heacock just as a southbound motorist was making a turn onto Fawn.

"The pedestrian sustained major injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the scene," Gonzalez said.

The motorist, who called 911, remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies as they conducted a preliminary investigation, according to the sergeant.

The driver, whose name was withheld, was not arrested.
