Paroled Burglar Caught Again, Booked into Banning Jail: Police

Edward O'Brien, 27, is accused of breaking into a Palm Springs vacation rental home just before 5 am in the 100 block of Canyon Rock Road.

PALM SPRINGS, CA -- A convicted burglar on parole was arrested before dawn on Friday for allegedly breaking into a Palm Springs vacation home and attempting to steal jewelry from a married couple on holiday.

The parolee was also in possession of methamphetamine, police say.

Edward O'Brien, 27, is accused of breaking into a vacation rental just before 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Canyon Rock Road while the couple slept inside, according to Palm Springs police.

O'Brien tried to flee with some jewelry and other items belonging to the couple, but was subdued by the husband. The husband was not injured during the struggle, according to police.

Palm Springs police arrived shortly after and arrested O'Brien, police said. Upon further investigation, police found methamphetamine on O'Brien, who was already on parole for a prior home invasion charge.

O'Brien is expected to be booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional facility in Banning on suspicion of burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a controlled substance for sale and violation of probation, police said.
