MORENO VALLEY, CA — Firefighters increased containment on the Reche Canyon area brush fire to 85 percent, Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters announced Monday morning. The fire was holding at 437 acres burned as of 8 a.m., Capt. Richard Cordova said.

The blaze erupted at 1 p.m. Friday on the 9400 block of Reche Canyon Road, according to Cal Fire. Though the blaze at one time prompted evacuations by Monday morning, no orders or warnings were in place.

No structures were threatened or destroyed, and no one was injured. There were no remaining road closures in this incident, according to Cordova. At the height of the brush fire, at least six Cal Fire air tankers and six water-dropping helicopters made runs on the blaze, successfully slowing its advance, enabling crews to start tightening up gaps. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
