DUI Suspected In Fatal 4-Car Crash In RivCo
Four vehicles were involved in the collision and both the Riverside Police and Fire departments responded to the scene.

RIVERSIDE, CA — The driver of a Dodge Challenger is in police custody Thursday after rear-ending a Honda Civic, triggering a four-vehicle collision that killed a man in Riverside.
The Riverside Emergency Dispatch Center received a call on Wednesday at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday regarding a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of Market Street and Fifth Street. According to Riverside Police Department Sgt. Emilio Angulo, the preliminary investigation of the crash revealed the driver of the Challenger was diving south on Market at a high rate of speed and rear-ended a Honda Civic, forcing the Civic into opposing lanes of traffic. The Honda collided head-on with a vehicle traveling northbound Market Street and the Challenger continued and collided with another vehicle before stopping, Angulo said.

The driver of the Civic was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries, police said. The driver of the Challenger, along with other involved parties, sustained minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. The driver of the Dodge attempted to run away as officers arrived at the scene and was detained, according to police.
The Riverside Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and is in charge of the investigation, police said. According to police, drugs and/or alcohol may have been contributing factors in the collision.
