RivCo Man Arrested In Connection With Vehicle Thefts

One of two suspects in a series of thefts involving unlocked vehicles was arrested in Calimesa on Thursday.

CALIMESA, CA — A man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary after another suspect was spotted rummaging through a vehicle in Calimesa in the early morning hours on Thursday, authorities said.

Deputies spotted a man digging through a vehicle at 3:16 a.m. on the 1100 block of Coriander Street on Thursday after receiving a report from a resident. When the person looked up and noticed deputies, he fled on foot and has not been found, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a release.

However, police were able to detain a second suspect, 29-year-old Jess Luque of Colton. The identity of the man who fled remains unknown, police said.

Luque was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

After deputies canvassed the neighborhood, they found that several other vehicles had been rummaged through. All vehicles were reported unlocked, officials said.

Anyone with information related to this incident was urged to contact the Cabazon Station at 951-922-7100.

"The Riverside County Sheriff's Office encourages all residents to take proactive measures to safeguard their property by establishing a nightly routine to secure vehicles and residences. Each evening, make it a habit to lock your car doors, roll up windows, and remove valuables from plain view," deputies wrote in a release.

Authorities also urge residents to secure their homes by locking all doors and windows.

"A consistent routine can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of theft or burglary," according to the release. "By taking these simple precautions, you help create a safer community for everyone."
