Suspected Burglar Fatally Shot By Resident ID'd As Moreno Valley Man
The 20-year-old suspect and the resident engaged in a shootout, police said.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old man suspected of joining at least one other person in trying to burglarize a Riverside apartment was killed by the resident, who was wounded in the exchange of gunfire, authorities said Thursday.
Denzeal Young of Moreno Valley was fatally shot about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 5000 block of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, near Central Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Officer Ryan Railsback alleged that Young and another suspect tried to force their way into a unit within an apartment complex facing Interstate 215, but the occupant was awakened and confronted the intruders with a firearm.

Railsback said shots were exchanged, and Young was struck in the upper body, while the resident was hit in the leg.
The suspects ran to a white sedan parked nearby, jumped inside and tried to drive away, but the vehicle plowed into several parked cars, according to Railsback.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol officers swarmed the location within minutes, locating Young mortally wounded in the sedan. He was alone.
The suspect was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died less than a half-hour later.
The victim was treated for his leg wound at the same facility and is expected make a full recovery, Railsback said.
He said that officers searched the apartment complex and surrounding area but could not locate the other suspect. Police are still not certain whether there were only two involved in the attempted break-in.
