Beaumont police and Riverside County bomb squad deputies responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of a suspicious device in a neighborhood near Mountain View Middle School.
Residents noticed law enforcement in the area of Trinette, Heidi and Cedar View after 1:20 p.m. Oct. 1. A photo from the scene showed law enforcement preparing to deploy a robot or remote-controlled device.
Asked about police activity in the area, Beaumont police Chief Frank Coe responded via email: "Suspicious device and we asked the 'bomb squad' from the Sheriff's office to come check it . . . just precautionary."
Law enforcement were still in the area just before 2 p.m. and they were gone by 3:10 p.m., a resident said.
The wash between Beaumont Avenue and Cougar Way was also closed off for a time. Mountain View Middle School is at 200 Cougar Way, northwest of where the suspicious device was found.
