Wild Fire Burning Near Idyllwild Reaches 50% Containment
The blaze ignited in the San Bernardino National Forest near Saunders Meadow Road Thursday afternoon, charring almost five acres.

IDYLLWILD, CA — Idyllwild fire crews and U.S. Forest Service firefighters made progress against the Wild Fire burning near Mountain Center Friday morning, holding it to just under 5 acres.

The blaze ignited amid heavy vegetation shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday in a remote area near Highway 243 and Saunders Meadow Road.

"The fire has reached 50 percent containment, with hose lays and hand lines all around it," USFS Public Affairs Specialist Gus Bahena said Friday morning.
Firefighters from Idyllwild, along with brush crews from the U.S. Forest Service and the Idyllwild Fire Protection District were conducting mop-up activities as of 10 a.m. Friday morning.
