Woman's Body Recovered From San Bernardino Mountains: Coroner Seeks Her Identity

The coroner is attempting to identify a woman who fell from the side of the mountain to her death 75 feet down an embankment near Crestline.

CRESTLINE, CA — The body of a woman was discovered on a steep slope of the San Bernardino Mountains below the Rim of the World Scenic Byway on Tuesday, officials say.

The San Bernardino County Coroner is attempting to identify the victim, described as a woman, approximately 25 to 35 years old, last wearing blue pants, a blue sweatshirt and white tennis shoes.

Shortly before 11:45 a.m., sheriff's deputies from the Twin Peaks Station responded to Highway 138 near Crestline Road where the body was discovered.

"As deputies arrived, they located the body about 75 feet down a steep embankment," Detective Alejandro Duran reported. Specialized Investigations Division responded and assisted in the recovery of the woman, with support from the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

"They retrieved the woman from the side of the mountain, and her body taken to the coroner's office," Duran said.

The Coroner has determined that her injuries were consistent with a fall.

"The death investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to identify the victim, according to Duran. Details on how the woman's body was found, and other information on her cause of death, were not immediately available.
