SAN MATEO, CA — A 33-year-old California Highway Patrol officer suffered serious injuries Monday morning when his CHP motorcycle was struck by a car on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Mateo, the CHP said.
CHP Officer Kurtis Waldschmidt said both vehicles were headed south in the far right lane in slow traffic on the freeway just south of the Third Avenue interchange at about 10:20 a.m. Monday when they were involved in a crash. The officer, whose identity was not released Monday, suffered "major" but not life-threatening injuries, and was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, a 34-year-old San Francisco man, was not injured and cooperated with investigators, Waldschmidt said.
