DUI Arrests Down in San Mateo County
Officials credit sobriety checkpoints for the decrease in drunk drivers this holiday weekend. A checkpoint will be set up Friday night in San Carlos at El Camino Real near St. Francis Way.

Several Bay Area counties are reporting fewer DUI arrests during
the Fourth of July holiday, but enforcement is scheduled to continue through
the weekend.
In San Mateo County, 11 people were arrested between 12:01 a.m. on
July 3 and midnight on July 4, a sharp drop from the 21 people arrested
during the same period last year.
Officials said the decrease is probably due in part to the fact that there was a sobriety checkpoint during the same period last year.
There were no DUI-related fatalities or injuries in San Mateo County. Officials say a sobriety checkpoint is planned in San Carlos Friday night.
In Santa Clara County, between 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and midnight
on Thursday a total of 22 people were arrested, down from 34 arrests last
year.
And in Solano County, officials are reporting 4 arrests, down from 6 last year.
But in Marin County, the California Highway Patrol reports that eight people were arrested on suspicion of DUI between 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 6 a.m. Friday.
By the same time last year, seven arrests had been made, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.
There were three solo vehicle crashes reported Thursday night and Friday morning, including one on North San Pedro Road in which a 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
In the two other collisions, the drivers appear to have fled the scene before officers arrived, Barclay said.
