How to Get Involved Without Running for Office
The City of Belmont has several vacant seats on city commissions. What are your interests? Perhaps you could put them to good use by serving on a commission.

The City of Belmont is currently recruiting residents interested in serving on three city commissions: Planning, Parks & Recreation (youth seat), and Finance.
A bit about each commission:
- There is one vacancy on the Planning Commission for a term ending in March of 2015. The Planning Commission meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. The Commission reviews and takes action on planning applications, and makes recommendations to the City Council on zoning and land use issues.
- There is one opening for Youth seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The City Council will consider applications from Belmont residents who are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old. Parent/Guardian consent is mandatory. There are several months remaining on this vacant seat (expires March of 2014). Youth members are full voting members of the Commission.
- There is a vacant position on the Finance Commission for a term ending in March of 2014. The Finance Commission meets bimonthly on the every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and participates in the budget review process, conducts an annual review of the City’s investment policy, and, at the request of the City Council, evaluates proposals, programs and contracts for long and short term financial consequences. Anyone appointed to this vacant term would be eligible to reapply in the spring at the end of the current term.
To apply for any of these positions and to have an opportunity to make a contribution to your community, fill out the application form available on the website or from the City Manager’s or Clerk’s Office (One Twin Pines Lane), and return it to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Applicants must live in Belmont. Except for a small stipend paid to Planning Commissioners, there is no compensation for these positions.
