Peninsula Thieves Caught Following Car Chase, Spike Strip: Police
Police say the duo were spotted in a stolen car "and casing to burglarize cars."
SAN MATEO, CA — Early Wednesday morning, at around 12:42 a.m., two would-be car thieves found themselves on the run from the San Mateo Police Department, and, eventually, in the department's custody.
Police had spotted Addison Mazagodoy and Javier Becerraramirez cruising in a black Toyota Camry with no license plates. Because the area has suffered a marked uptick in auto burglaries, when one of the duo was observed getting out of the Camry and acting suspicious, officers decided to pursue and stop them.
Instead, the suspects fled and began a long and dangerous chase that necessitated the coordination of several different law enforcement agencies. Eventually, the pair's Camry was brought to a stop near an industrial block in Belmont by the deployment of spike strips. The vehicle was found to be stolen.
