10-Hour Freeway Closure On I-80 In Solano County: What To Know

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Caltrans is preparing for a 10-hour, full overnight of Interstate Highway 80 at Red Top Road near Fairfield in Solano County.

The closure is part of the I-80/Interstate 680/State Route 12 Interchange Project, which includes demolishing the old, existing connector bridge from eastbound SR-12 to eastbound I-80. During the closure from 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, through 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, crews will remove the existing bridge spans.

"There won’t be access through the closure with the bridge coming down," said Pedro Quintana, a spokesperson for Caltrans District 4.

Caltrans will use flaggers, as well as overhead and portable changeable message signs, to alert drivers of the detour and potential traffic delays of up to 30-45 minutes, Quintana said.

Detour Information For Full I-80 Freeway Closure

Westbound I-80 travelers: Exit westbound I-80 onto the I-680 connector ramp in Cordelia and travel southbound to connect to westbound I-780 —Curtola Parkway — in Benicia, then back onto westbound I-80 in Vallejo.

During the closure, Caltrans will keep westbound I-80 open in Vallejo but only to local traffic. A hard closure will be in place at southbound I-680.

From Green Valley, westbound SR-12 will be open but westbound I-80 will be closed as shown below in the detour map.

Eastbound I-80 travelers: Exit eastbound I-80 at Red Top Road, then take Lopes Road and follow the detour back onto the eastbound I-80 on-ramp.

During the closure, eastbound I-80 will be open in Vallejo but only to local traffic. Caltrans will have a hard closure in place at Red Top Road as depicted below in a detour map.

Work Hours Subject To Change

As of Tuesday, the bridgework was scheduled to take place Saturday night and Sunday morning but was subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and other construction-related issues, according to Caltrans.
