Marcus Brown, 22, got out of his 1997 BMW 535 after it struck the center divider of Highway 37 just east of the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo around 1:45 p.m., CHP Sgt. Jason Hekker said.

He suffered minor injuries in that collision and was inspecting the damage to his car when he was struck in the No. 1 lane by a 1993 Toyota Corolla driven by 26-year-old Samantha Cole of Vallejo, Hekker said.

Cole was driving along a blind, sweeping, left curve on the transition ramp from eastbound Interstate Highway 80 onto westbound state Highway 37 when she struck Brown, Hekker said.

Brown fell onto the hood of the Toyota, struck the windshield and landed in the middle of both lanes of Highway 37. He suffered major head injuries and was taken to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Hekker said.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash that closed the transition ramp for about an hour, Hekker said.

Hekker said the incident is a reminder to motorists to safely

drive their vehicle out of the traffic lanes of a highway after a collision if possible.
