Evacuation Orders Lifted, Fire Contained In State Recreation Area Off I-780

The fire originated in the Benicia State Park and spread to two other locations in minutes.

BENICIA, CA — Evacuation orders for Benicia residents near the State Recreation Area off Interstate Highway 780 have lifted as crews battled a three-alarm vegetation fire Monday.

"Yesterday’s fire originated in the Benicia State Park and spread to two other locations in minutes," the Benicia Fire Department announced on Facebook. "Thanks to quick work by Benicia Firefighters and other assisting agencies, the fires were contained within an hour and a half. No structures were damaged and no one was injured."

The fire was first reported around 5 p.m. and had gone to three alarms by 5:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the Fire Department said. The blaze was on both sides of the freeway but as of 5:52 p.m., the fire on the state recreation area side has been contained, Benicia Fire said.

People are asked to avoid the area and not to call 911 for fire updates. The Benicia Fire Department is providing updated information on its Facebook and Instagram pages, the spokesperson said.
