UPDATE: Fatality Confirmed In Vallejo Blaze Wednesday Night
Once firefighters got the fire under control, they searched inside, where they found an infant who perished. They say a second child escaped

UPDATE 11:10AM - Vallejo Fire Department investigators entered an apartment sunrise this morning to find the cause and origin of a three-alarm fire that killed an infant and displaced 15 people late Wednesday night, a fire department spokesman said.
Fire spokesman Kevin Brown said the infant was under a year old and the baby’s gender was not immediately available.
Neighbors of the four-plex at 128 Kathy Ellen Drive said another child was able to escape the burning apartment as were the parents, Brown said.

An attempt was made to rescue the infant within 20 minutes of arrival, but firefighters were unable to advance inside, Brown said.
Because of the fatality, the fire department got a warrant to preserve what is procedurally considered a crime scene, and the Vallejo police and fire departments are investigating the blaze, Brown said.

The fire near Interstate Highway 80 and south of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom was reported around 11:35 p.m.
