The blaze broke out in a classroom.

BENICIA, CA — A fire in a Benicia elementary school classroom this morning started on top of a stove in a kitchen area, a fire division chief said. There were students in the classroom at the time and staff of Robert Semple Elementary School at 2015 E. Third St. quickly put out the fire with an extinguisher, Benicia Fire Division Chief Jed Matcham said.

School staff was cooking something on the stove as part of a classroom activity, Matcham said.
