Former Treasurer for Solano County Friends of Animals Charged with Embezzlement

Jacqueline Bailey is being charged with siphoning more than $50,000 from the non-profit animal shelter.

The former treasurer for Solano County Friends of Animals was arrested Sunday for embezzling in excess of $50,000 from the non-profit organization.

Jacqueline Bailey was charged with felony grand theft and paid a bail amount of $25,000, according to Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley.

Members of the Solano County Friends of Animals reported to police in March, 2009 that they may have been victim to embezzlement, said Daley. The organization noticed financial discrepancies, including missing money, and confronted Bailey who admitted to impropriety and resigned as treasurer. The group then approached the Benicia Police Department for a criminal investigation.

"Detective Greg Rouse conducted a painstaking investigation which required sifting through a number of financial documents one by one," said Daley.

Bailey was interviewed and the case brought to the attention of the Solano County District Attorney's office. An arrest warrant was issued in March 2011, with bail set at $25,000. Bailey was arrested last Sunday in Fairfield by the Solano County Sherrif's Department and has since posted bail, according to Daley. An arraignment date will be set in the coming months.
