PETA Offers $5K Reward After Dog Tossed Onto Vacaville Freeway

A report that a tied up puppy was tossed from a moving car has prompted the animal rights group to get involved.

VACAVILLE, CA -- Animal rights group PETA announced Tuesday it is offering a $5,000 reward after police said a tied up puppy was tossed onto a Vacaville freeway. The puppy was killed following the incident last week, police said.

The 18-month-old dog was reported missing by owner Deb Ferrara just hours before the incident on Interstate 80 near Davis Street.

Vacaville Police Department wrote on Facebook that two witnesses "were directly behind a blue Toyota Prius when they saw the unthinkable. A white object was thrown out of the passenger side window of the Prius onto the freeway. They were sickened when they saw it was a small white dog. The dog's back legs hand been tied together. They immediately stopped to help the dog but sadly it was run over and died."

The witnesses called Ferrara after pulling over and finding her phone number on the puppy's collar.

Calling the incident a "horrible crime," PETA asked the public for help in finding the person or people responsible.

"While this little dog's guardian was hoping for him to return home, someone tied him up and tossed him onto the freeway to die," said PETA vice president Collen O'Brien. "PETA needs the public's help in solving this case before this dog's abuser attacks anyone else."
