Solano County Minivan Chase Suspect Shot Twice By Police

A driver accused of leading cops on a chase in a stolen minivan was in critical but stable condition after two officer-involved shootings.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A Vacaville man who is suspected of stealing a minivan in San Francisco was shot twice by police officers during a pursuit in Solano County early Thursday morning, Vacaville police said. Police learned around 1:30 a.m. that the California Highway Patrol was pursuing the minivan on eastbound Interstate Highway 80.

Officers laid spike strips on the road, but the van exited at Alamo Drive and Vacaville police joined the pursuit with a CHP helicopter overhead.

The man in his 40s drove to Edwin Drive at Elmira Road and Solano County Sheriff's deputies also responded. When Vacaville police officers got out of their patrol cars, the man drove toward them and an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.

The man then drove to Meridian and McCrory roads, where the van crashed into a drainage ditch and became disabled. The driver fled on foot to a field where a second officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.

The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital and taken into surgery. His condition was critical but stable and he is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
