Tied Up Vacaville Puppy Tossed From Car; Suspect Sought

Witnesses said the puppy was killed when he was tossed onto the freeway from a Prius. A reward is offered for information.

VACAVILLE, CA -- A reward is being offered Monday after a puppy was killed when it was tied up and tossed onto the freeway from a moving car. Police said witnesses saw the puppy, named Rex, being tossed onto Interstate 80 near Davis Street.

The 18-month-old dog was reported missing by owner Deb Ferrara just hours before the incident.

Vacaville Police Department wrote on Facebook that two witnesses "were directly behind a blue Toyota Prius when they saw the unthinkable. A white object was thrown out of the passenger side window of the Prius onto the freeway. They were sickened when they saw it was a small white dog. The dog’s back legs hand been tied together. They immediately stopped to help the dog but sadly it was run over and died."

The witnesses called Ferrara after pulling over and finding her phone number on the puppy's collar.

"As you can imagine Deb is completely devastated," the Police Department wrote. "While nothing will bring Rex back, we’re asking for your help in sharing this post to help get the word out. We need your assistance to identify the responsible in this horrific crime and ensure they are brought to justice."
