Vallejo Man Killed In Crash Near American Canyon: CHP

BREAKING: The 18-year-old died when his car collided with a big-rig, the California Highway Patrol says.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a driver who died in a collision with a big-rig near American Canyon this morning as Javier Sanchez-Mota, 18, of Vallejo. At about 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sanchez-Mota, was driving a 2006 Nissan north on state Highway 29 in unincorporated Napa County when he drove through a red light and struck a 2008 Kenworth truck and trailer traveling west on a green light at the intersection on South Kelly Road, CHP Officer Marc Renspurger said.

Sanchez-Mota was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa where he died just before 1 p.m., sheriff's Capt. Steve Blower said.

The collision blocked the north and south lanes of Highway 29.

An 18-year-old Vallejo woman riding in the Nissan suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Renspurger said. Both Nissan occupants were wearing seat belts.

The big-rig driver, a 34-year-old man from Isleton, suffered minor injuries, Renspurger said.

Traffic was delayed for over an hour during the collision investigation.
