12 Arrests In Berkeley Retail Theft Crackdown

BERKELEY, CA — Twelve people were arrested and stolen property was recovered when the Berkeley Police Department conducted a retail theft operation near Target on University Avenue.

In addition to the stolen merchandise, police recovered at least one gun.

The operation was conducted on July 27 and announced by police last week.

In a social media post, police said, "This operation resulted in the arrest of thieves, but also suspects with outstanding warrants for their arrest for other crimes."

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed several bills last week aimed at curtailing retail theft, while voters will decide on anti-crime measures on the November ballot.
