A Cornucopia of Color in Yarn at 'k2tog'

The front door of the shop named "k2tog" at 1325 Solano Ave. in Albany (between Pomona and Ramona avenues) shows a globe of the world with a knitting needle as its axis and the motto "knitting the world together."

Step through the door and the visitor is immediately plunged into a vibrant and soft world of color. It would be hard to think of a hue that can't be found on the abundantly stocked shelves and racks of yarns that fill the premises.

A Patch reporter unschooled in the knitting arts was puzzled by the shop's name, "k2tog."

"It's a knitting term," explained employee Lynn Bloch. "You knit two together."

The business, which carries many yarns from local producers, is more than a supply source for those who knit, crochet, darn, purl or otherwise create clothing, accessories and art out of yarn.

"What makes our store a little bit different is we offer help sessions, which are knit-togethers," Bloch said. The drop-in sessions cost $5.

The shop also lists classes in making sweaters, mobius cowls, Brioche in the round, and other topics.

"The classes are a big hit," said employee Roschelle Hood.
