Ant Prof Who Braved Madagascar Mud to Give Free Talk

UC Berkeley adjunct biology professor Brian Fisher – a regular on BBC, the Discovery Channel and National Geographic – will speak on "Ants: the Invisible Majority" at the Albany Community Center Friday night

When he's not buried up to his hips in Madagascar mud, ant expert Brian Fisher teaches and curates exhibits in the Bay Area about the topic to which he's devoted his life – ants and biodiversity.

Fisher – a regular on the Discovery Channel, BBC and National Geographic – will give a free talk, "Ants: The Invisible Majority," at 6:45-8 p.m. Friday at the Albany Community Center.

Fisher is Associate Curator of Entomology at the California Academy of Sciences and an adjunct professor of biology at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University.

Children of all ages and their families are invited to the educational lecture, sponsored by Albany Recreation & Community Services Department.

"Dr. Brian Fisher is a modern-day explorer who has devoted his life to the study and conservation of ants and biodiversity around the world," says a department announcement. "His research sends him through the last remote rainforests and deserts of Madagascar and Africa in search of ants. Although his subjects may be small in stature, they make a huge impact on their ecosystems. And what they lack in size, they more than make up for in numbers."
