Arrest, Tickets: Berkeley DUI Checkpoint Results
Police have announced the next date for a DUI checkpoint in Berkeley.

BERKELEY, CA — There Berkeley Police Department made one arrest and issued 28 citations at a DUI / Driver License Checkpoint held on July 19.
Police contacted 1067 drivers at the checkpoint, held at Shattuck Avenue at Parker Street.
The person arrested was hauled away on suspicion of DUI. An additional 28 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.

The 28 drivers who were ticketed were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.
The next DUI checkpoint will be held on August 29. Checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

According to the police department, the primary purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
